At Spring Brook Upper, Geography lessons are about inspiring curiosity and fascination about the world and its people.

We hope this interest will remain with our pupils for the rest of their lives, equipping them well for further education and beyond.

Our Geography curriculum is aspirational, engaging and relevant for our pupils.

We teach pupils about:

• diverse places

• diverse people

• resources

• natural and human environments

• physical and human processes

We aim to explore current relevant issues such as:

• climate change

• food security

• energy choices

By looking at globally significant people and events, Geography can be used to develop:

• communication skills

• geographical skills

• inquiry skills

Pupils will be able to transfer these skills to other life situations.

Geography Lessons at Spring Brook Upper

Geography at Spring Brook Upper will be studied as a three-year cycle of topics.

This will ensure that there is skills-based progression throughout KS3 and where pupils are not in a class group with their year e.g. A Y7 pupil in a class of Y8 pupils, they will not be going over content they have already studied.

Topics studied cover content that is statutory within the KS3 National Curriculum for Geography.

Spring Brook Upper Geography Curriculum Intent

Assessment

Progress will be tracked using a progression model that assesses geographical knowledge and understanding, communication and decision making skills, understanding of physical and human geography and proficiency in using cartographic, graphical, numerical and statistical data.

These areas will be assessed formatively throughout lessons and with a summative assessment each term.
