Camping Trip!

We have just arrived back from our first of two camping trips for the year 9's at SBU.
What an amazing time we had and what an amazing group it was as we experienced a proper expedition out in the Peak District National Park.
Some fresh faces began the journey as we got dropped off by minibus at Upper Booth near Edale. From there we walked up to the top of Kinder Scout via the famous 16th Century pack horse bridge and 'Jacob's Ladder' path, was incredibly steep! At the edge of Kinder Scout we sat in some shelter from the wind and refuelled with lunch. Amazingly we watched an army helicopter fly right past us practicing manoeuvres in the wind!
Finally we managed to reach the Trig point (top) of Kinder Scout and had some amazing views from the rocks up there. At this point the wind was incredibly strong and we could see the rain storms coming our way.
Walking from here we rounded the corner to see Kinder Downfall (usually a big waterfall) flowing upside down as the wind was blowing the waterfall up the hillside!!
After the downfall we were hit by multiple rain storms and spells of sunshine as we crossed the Kinder skyline. Despite the weather the views really are quite incredible!
As we moved off Kinder the weather became more pleasant and we encountered a wartime plane wreck in the moorland.
After a 2nd lunch we climbed our final hill giving us more great views before the downhill to the campsite completing our nearly 19km walk.
Very quickly tents were up, the fire was lit and a curry was being cooked. Quinton even said grace before we ate!!
The fire was kept going into the night and finally it went dark enough to play an amazing game of manhunt in the forest.
The next morning was a beautiful morning and we cooked bacon, sausage and egg butties for breakfast before packing up (watching Mr Roscoe fight with a tent was rather amusing!) and heading out on our (much shorter) 2nd walk.
This walk took us via 'Broadbottom Sands' where we had a quick dip and swim in the river before heading out through the mill ruins to our extraction point at Lymefield Visitor Centre.
What a great experience and what a great team for a memorable end to year 9.
Amazing everyone!!!
